I DID AN OLLIE.
LIKE… not a big one. Not even a good one.
But the tail popped, the board moved, I left the ground (by, like, a bee’s knee).
AND IT FELT. SO. SICK. 🛹🔥
✅ Watching slow-mo clips on Insta
✅ Practicing foot position like 900 times on the carpet
✅ Talking to myself like: “Pop, drag, land, pop, drag, land”
✅ Fruity Squiggle Stick doodles on my grip (had to make it mine!)
✅ A couple slams (okay more than a couple lol)
If you’re new to skating like me, here’s what’s made things easier:
🛹 A soft bushing setup (turns like butter)
👟 Shoes that don’t slide off mid-pop (RIP my Crocs era)
🖍️ Fruity Squiggle Sticks to draw cool stuff on your grip — mine has a giant yelling banana
👶 Elbow pads my mum made me wear but I’m kinda glad tbh
🧃 An apple juice box for when I get sweaty and emotional
I fell on my hip, then my hand, then my pride — but I got back up every time.
Because one tiny ollie feels like you just won the X Games.
So if you’re learning too?
High five.
We’re in this together.
And hey — if your ollie looks more like a flappy little jump worm?
That still counts.
Keep practicing, keep shouting, and KEEP THE STOKE ALIIIIVE!
