I Messed Up My Grip Tape… and It Turned Out Sick

Yo. It me. Splat.

I had a plan. Kinda.
I was gonna do this clean checkerboard grip tape thing—ya know, all crisp, sharp lines… very “professional.” But five minutes in, I smudged a fat black paint pen across the whole thing with my hoodie sleeve. Total chaos.

Did I freak out? Nope. I leaned in.

Here’s what went down:

  • I turned that smudge into a blowout explosion cloud ☁️💥
  • Then added eyeballs to the corners so it looked like a weird lil grip monster
  • I carved lightning bolts around it with a razor (don’t tell my mum)
  • And then… I busted out my Fruity Squiggle Sticks and scribbled flames, stars, and worms all over it

Yeah, it got weird. But weird is good.

🧰 Tools I Used (AKA: My Chaos Kit)

  • Fruity Squiggle Sticks (12-pack) – the GOATs of grip art.
Neon, pastel, and punky shades that actually show up on grip tape
    👉 Grab ’em here
  • White paint pen + Fruity Flush for outlines
  • A blunt ol’ Stanley knife
  • Some leftover stickers from Fruity orders
  • Imagination + “Oops energy”

Wanna Try This?

Here’s a beginner tip:
Start with a mistake.
Seriously. Scribble something random. Spill a lil paint. Let the grip tell you what it wants to be. Then build on it.

Bonus Tip: Grip Layering

Stacking sticker layers under clear grip looks freaky-cool.
Slap down a Fruity sticker, then put clear grip over the top. Boom — 3D art. Bonus points if it’s crusty and peeling in a rad way.

So yeah. Go mess it up.

Because sometimes your biggest “oops” becomes the sickest part of your board.
And if anyone asks what it is?

Just say it’s art.
